Leadership Services

Purpose

To disciple and mentor faithful believers who desire to be equipped for leadership in ministry.

Overview

The mandate for all believers is found in the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20 which is to make disciples. The English word "disciple" is a translation of the Greek word "mathetes" meaning "one who is a disciplined learner from another." It also has the connotation of one who learns by doing. So a disciple is a student, a learner who is committed to following a teacher by means of private, public, and practical learning. In the context of Matthew 28:19-20, all believers are to be disciples and make disciples.

In Ephesians 4:11-12 we see that God gave the gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher to the church so that they could "equip" (literally "put right" or "prepare") believers to engage in meaningful ministry. A leader should focus on implementation of truth so disciples are taught the various ways in which they can minister to others, and then be equipped to minister in the areas best suited to their abilities and level of maturity.

Paul instructed Timothy to take men who had proven themselves faithful and mentor them for ministry In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul says, "And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." The ministry (job) description of every leader should include being a mentor to emerging leaders. Mentoring is not something that a leader can delegate -- only leaders can train leaders!

One of the core values of Help Ministries is discipling servant-leaders. A servant-leader is one who selflessly serves others by influencing, equipping, and empowering them to accomplish God's goals for them and their ministries. Our goal is to help others become more effective in serving God, rather than doing the work for them.
